Info On MPS VI
This page is for those who ask
1. Why do you test for MPS VI.
2. Why are you breeding a known carrier?
Why am I breeding a known carrier?

I have been told a carrier is not a bad thing to have as long as you are a responsible breeder
Carriers are not MPS VI affected dogs
They are just Carriers!!

Most Min Pin breeders are not testing
to determine if MPS VI is present in their breeding stock.
Those same breeders could therefore be breeding carriers that they don't know they have.
The most recent Min Pin that I have had tested for MPS VI was given
test number 472 which indicates that
only 472 min pins have so far been tested!!!
So, as I stated, there are a huge number of breeders that are not testing for this devastating genetic disease and are 'putting their heads in the sand'.
Ask your breeder to show you proof of these documents
and make sure they have not bred 2 carries together which
could result in an affected MPS VI offspring.
All Breeders SHOULD be testing.

"This is why it is important to test for carriers, as you can have two 'normal/unaffected dogs' having offspring that suffer from MPSVI.

*Parent 1   x  Parent 2     =  Offspring*
Normal    x   Normal    = Normal
Normal    x  Carrier     = Some Normal and Some Carriers in a 1:1 ratio
Carrier    x  Carrier     = Some Normal, Some Carriers and some affected   in a 1:2:1 ratio
Affected  x  Normal     = All carriers
Affected  x Carrier      = Some affected, some carriers 1:1 ratio
Affected  x Affected    = All affected

Carriers are NOT a bad dog to have in a breeding program, as long as they are carefully managed to avoid Carrier x Carrier matings. The carrier will not have any of the clinical problems that the affected dogs have, and have standard life-expectancies and health."

"MPS VI is a recessive gene"
This means that both parents must carry the gene
to pass it on to their offspring to produce affected dogs.

Please if you find out you do have a carrier (like I do)
Breed them responsibly
PLEASE do your research...
Test all your breeding stock...
CARRIERS FOR MPS VI CAN BE IN ANY LINE !!
YOU WILL NOT KNOW UNLESS YOU TEST.
carrier  -
Genetics An individual that carries one gene for a particular recessive trait. A carrier does not express the trait but, when mated with another carrier, can produce offspring that do.

BREEERS TEST
YOUR DOGS
There was only 10 dogs tested between that time that is sad :(
What is MPS VI?

"In mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) , certain large sugars of the body are not properly broken down. The ensuing cellular accumulation results in skeletal deformities, including defects in the sternum, vertebrae and particularly the hip joints. To varying degrees they may also experience corneal cloudiness and facial dysmorphia. MPS VI has been seen in humans, cats and, more recently, dogs"

Thank you for letting me post these pictures :)
As stated by a fellow breeder:
"IF THE PUP SURVIVES TO ADULTHOOD..... I NOTICE THE FACE LOOKING AT THEM FROM THE FRONT.....THEY HAVE THE LOOK OF A ''DOWNS SYNDROME''AND THEY HAVE A  VERY MILD AND SWEET TEMPERAMENT."

I want to say thank you for helping us understanding more about this devastating genetic disease
